About P.O.R.

Mommy & Me Music ClassesEnrichment ProgramsBirthday Parties • and More! Preschool of Rock is redefining music education for the young child by inspiring creativity, confidence, and freedom through caring role models, innovative curriculum, uncommon instruments and hip music. Preschool of Rock offers music classes that are ‘roof raising’, music based, experience for families and schools. The program engages the most active child into moments of focus. More reserved children or babies gain confidence with new sounds and learn the freedom to express themselves. We explore science through our various instrument discovery sessions, math through drumming in patterns and language with our multi-lingual songs. The adult participants find that they learn new things, bond with the child, and wear a smile for the duration of the program. Our use of live, original music, world instruments, dramatic play, props, movement and storytelling captivate our audiences.   Our students are encouraged to participate at any level at any pace. Children learn the basic “how to’s?” and “why’s?” pertaining to music. We encourage investigation, discovery, and creativity.

The Origins of P.O.R.

While participating in music programs with his children, Michael Napolitano (founder) realized many music classes had too many similarities. A musician himself, his mission became finding ways to offer children a new and refreshing musical educational experience.

Once started on this path, the free creative expression, coupled with infectious energy and a love of all things musical, gave birth to some something new, something exciting, something different! PRESCHOOL OF ROCK.

Preschool of Rock's music and classes were an instant success and the program continues to evolve.

Michael Napolitano

Michael Napolitano

Founder/Director, Composer, Instructor

Your friendly neighborhood, super animated, music superhero is a multi-instrumentalist from Metuchen NJ. Michael is an active performer, composer, producer, and engineer. His family is his main influence. As a child he attended rehearsals with his father (a professional drummer) and joined his parents at vocal rehearsals and performances. Michael and his father and two brothers are exceptional drummers and perhaps the first Preschool of Rock students ever!

His own experiences with music as a child aids his pursuit of reaching children at their level, with the power of music and drama. His infectious energy and understanding of children is embraced by families and educators alike.

Michael brings his influence from the creativity of Blue Man Group and the pedagogy of the Blue Man Creativity Center to Preschool of Rock.

MICHAEL AND BLUE MAN GROUP: After 10 years in the Blue Man Group organization, Michael was hired in 2009 by Chris Wink (Co-Creator of Blue Man Group) to pioneer a music program at The Blue School in NYC. The school bases its pedagogy on the Reggio Emilia Approach. Michael had the opportunity to study this approach as well as meet with, and be observed by, the principal figures in this movement. Michael's experiences with the Blue Man organization, traveling the world, and collaborating with world renowned artists and educators, has had a major impact on Preschool Of Rock's props, instruments and recordings.

Stephanie Gandelman

Stephanie Gandelman

Music Specialist

A composer, performer, multi-instrumentalist and designer, Stephanie was born into a musical and artistic family in Connecticut. Fortunate to be surrounded by music at home as she grew up, one of her early musical influences was her father, a blues and folk musician who taught Carly Simon how to play guitar. Stephanie and her brothers followed in his musical footsteps. At the age of 6, she began playing and writing music and fell in love with its therapeutic and expressive qualities. Stephanie moved to Brooklyn when she was 18 and immersed herself in the music of the city while she studied architecture. Since graduating from Pratt Institute School of Architecture, she has worked as a freelance designer on diverse projects and has dedicated herself to writing, recording and performing her music. (www.MarraBarr.com) She also regularly hosts and promotes music events throughout Brooklyn. So thankful for having been introduced to music at such as young age, bringing music to kids is such a rewarding highlight of her world.
