About P.O.R.

Mommy & Me Music ClassesEnrichment ProgramsBirthday Parties • and More!

Preschool of Rock is redefining music education for the young child by inspiring creativity, confidence, and freedom through caring role models, innovative curriculum, culturally diverse instruments and hip music.

Preschool of Rock offers music classes, shows and enrichments that are a ‘roof raising’, music based, experience for families and schools. Our use of live, original music, culturally diverse instruments, dramatic play, props, movement and storytelling captivate our audiences.   Our students are encouraged to participate at any level at any pace. Children learn the basic “how to’s?” and “why’s?” pertaining to music. We encourage investigation, discovery, and creativity.

The Origins of P.O.R.

While participating in music programs with his children, Michael Napolitano (founder) realized many music classes had too many similarities. A musician himself, his mission became finding ways to offer children a new and refreshing musical educational experience.

Once started on this path, the free creative expression, coupled with infectious energy and a love of all things musical, gave birth to some something new, something exciting, something different! PRESCHOOL OF ROCK.

Preschool of Rock's music and classes were an instant success and the program continues to evolve.

Meet the Founder

Michael Napolitano

Michael Napolitano

Founder/Director

Michael’s infectious energy and understanding of child development is embraced by families and educators alike. Napolitano performs, composes, produces, and engineers all of the music for Preschool of Rock. As a child, Michael quickly found himself immersed in music, attending rehearsals and gigs with his father (a professional drummer). Michael and his two brothers are exceptional drummers and were perhaps the first Preschool of Rock students ever!

Michael’s childhood experiences with preschool music have aided in his pursuit of reaching children with the power of music and drama at their own level.

MICHAEL AND BLUE MAN GROUP: After 10 years in the Blue Man Group organization, Michael was hired by Chris Wink (Co-Creator - Blue Man Group) to pioneer a music program at The Blue School in NYC. Michael's experiences with the Blue Man organization, traveling the world, and collaborating with world renowned artists and educators, has had a major impact on Preschool Of Rock's props, instruments and recordings.

Katie Ortiz

Katie Ortiz

Music Specialist

After being told at the age of seven that she was too young to begin voice lessons, Katie picked up her first instrument--the saxophone. She has since retired from her sax days but has a love for many other instruments including guitar, banjo, piano, and most of all, for singing. Katie grew up in Ridgewood, NJ, where she has many fond memories of sing alongs with her father. Katie wrote her first songs while in elementary school and has deep gratitude for her earliest music teachers who listened to every composition she brought in. It is this impact that has led Katie, now a singer/songwriter, to want to teach after studying Ethnomusicology at New York University. She knows that song is good for the soul and believes in the power of making a joyful noise! Katie is an active musician, fronting her band Young Monroe as well as singing with various collaborative groups all over New York City. When she isn't rocking out with little ones or performing onstage with her bands, she can frequently be found making music in one of NYC's parks or street corners.
